The doodle habit

These are some doodles that i like. For some reason i have this weird apprehension about actually sketching in my sketchbook. Instead i grab sheets and sheets of printer paper and fill those up while i'm talking to internet people. Then i have piles of paper lying around that i don't want to get rid of and i think "Why didn't i just use my sketchbook? This is what sketchbooks are for"

There's something in me that thinks it should only be reserved for drawings that i put a lot of work and thought into. Like this one?

This is really a stupid habit that i have, and it results in me taking forever to actually fill up a sketchbook. Maybe it's because i actually let people look at my sketchbook, and i want to show off only my best stuff. But sometimes the stuff i don't think about and just spontaneously scribble out onto loose paper can be more interesting than the stuff i work hard on and deem worthy of sketchbook admittance...
Heheheheh... hard on.

Mike Judge

I've decided Mike Judge has the most difficult face to draw in the whole world.
I need to get better at doing caricatures...

Painted up a quick Grinch tonight.
Tried to fuse the Seuss one with the Chuck Jones one.
Looks more like the Chuck Jones one though.

Bottom of the sea

Rain warped paper doesn't scan very well. But it certainly gives your sketchbook a neat look.

I dont like your tone

Some toned paper drawings.
All from life except the 3rd one which is a still from a movie.
First time trying toned paper, was pretty fun.

Also, I don't really know why all of these have that dim blue spot of light in the center, I think it has something with how light hits my camera lens. Very annoying.

I had to sit and listen to this guy talk about how to live forever. Mildly interesting, but probably bullshit. But hey i drew this during some of it.

People who were holding still.

I'll admit i've never actually tried the whole "go out and draw people in the real world" thing. Mostly cause the real world scares me, and part of drawing people means looking at them, which means they might see me looking at them which is bad or something. So a lot of these are backs of heads. Please forgive me but i'm sure in time i'll grow over my fear of eyecontact. This guy i know says he wears aviators so he can look at his page and the person and if he keeps his head still they dont notice. A good tactic. I should try it.

This girl was the model in class, i was supposed to be listening to a lecture on how to draw her instead of drawing her. Funny how that works out. She was cuter than this.

Tip for outside drawing: Old people hold still the longest. The top guy was there forever just baking in the sun. Probably looking right at me. Looks like the dude from Up, but real. Guy behind him reminds me of a Bill Plympton type character.


The dude on the bottom was there for a long time, playing nothing in particular, just guitar rambling. In the rain. Once i was done i showed it to him and he got a kick out of it. It was a neat sort of "artists feeding off each other" moment which made me feel real good inside while it lasted. I should stop putting things in quotes.


This last girl was in class. She's cute. I should talk to her.
